Tuberculosis Affecting Multiple Vertebral Bodies
Spinal tuberculosis usually occurs in a single vertebral body or two to three adjacent vertebrae; it rarely occurs in multiple vertebral bodies. Surgery is indicated in cases that do not improve with conservative therapy, or when paralysis is evident. Two cases regarding patients with spinal tuberculosis in multiple vertebral bodies on whom surgery was performed are reported. Case 1, the patien...
متن کاملCirculating plasma cells with Russell bodies in osteosclerotic myeloma.
A 58-year-old white female had severe bone pain for 1 week. Increased levels of free l light chain (2423 mg/L) were present in the serum with decreased levels of all immunoglobulins. The complete blood count and differential were within normal limits. The peripheral blood smear had increased rouleaux formation and atypical plasma cells containing numerous cytoplasmic Russell bodies (panel A). T...
متن کاملCoincident chronic lymphocytic leukemia and osteosclerotic multiple myeloma.
We report the first occurrence of chronic lymphatic leukemia (CLL) and osteosclerotic multiple myeloma (MM) in the same patient. The surface Ig of the CLL and the monoclonal serum Ig had different heavy and light chain classes, and CLL lymphocytes failed to secrete the monoclonal Ig in short-term culture. We conclude that they were entirely separate malignancies occuring together by chance.
متن کاملThe Relationship Between Morphology of Lumbar Disc Herniation and MRI Changes in Adjacent Vertebral Bodies
Background: Intervertebral disc herniation has two common types, extrusion and protrusion, which may affect the adjacent vertebrae. In addition, it is associated with significant signal changes in T1 MRI (short TR/TE) and T2 MRI (long TR/TE). Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional analytic one, in which sampling was performed retrospectively. Cases were randomly selected from the pa...
متن کاملCarcinomatous Metastasis to the Vertebral Bodies.
The spread of carcinoma to the vertebral bodies has been studied by the long vertebral slice technique. Vertebral secondaries were found in one third of all patients with carcinoma, and in almost one half of those dying with distant metastases. Haematogenous dissemination and direct lymphatic spread both appeared to produce vertebral metastases. Radiology and less effective investigation of the...
